About Inner Music Journey
Music has been an important part of my life for many years, and Inner Music Journey was created to share that passion and knowledge with others who are curious about learning music or discovering new instruments.
Whether you are just starting your musical journey or simply want to understand how different instruments work, this site is designed to help you explore the fascinating world of music.
My Musical Background
My formal music studies began at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and I later received my Bachelor of Music Performance degree with percussion as my primary instrument from Eastern Washington State College in Cheney, Washington.
My main focus has always been percussion, with particular emphasis on the marimba and drum set. In addition to percussion, I also played trumpet in the college concert band, and I continue to enjoy playing the piano as well.
My very first musical experience actually began at home, learning piano from my grandmother, who was my first teacher and introduced me to the joy of making music.
Performance Experience
During my musical career, I had the opportunity to perform in a variety of ensembles.
I played in the percussion section of the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra, where we occasionally performed with well-known guest artists. One of the performers we accompanied was Cy Coleman, the celebrated composer and pianist known for his work on Broadway and in jazz.
Outside of orchestral performance, I also played drum set in numerous dance bands, beginning when I was 16 years old. These experiences allowed me to perform a wide range of musical styles and develop a deeper appreciation for how different instruments work together in an ensemble.
Why I Created Inner Music Journey
Music has always been a lifelong passion for me, and I created Inner Music Journey as a way to share my experience and help others learn more about musical instruments.
Over the years, I have learned what it takes to develop musical skill, what instruments are well suited for beginners, and the dedication required to become a professional musician.
Although I have not personally played every instrument featured on this site, my education and performance experience have given me a deep understanding of how these instruments work and how they are used in different musical settings.
Through this website, my goal is to help you explore instruments, understand their unique qualities, and guide you as you begin or continue your own musical journey.
Music has the power to inspire, challenge, and bring people together. I hope the information shared here helps you discover the joy of music and encourages you to explore the incredible world of musical instruments.
